The past five years have been challenging for business leaders, and 2023 will be no different. In order to lead effectively during this rapidly changing period, leaders must have these 5 habits baked into their management routine:

1. Continuous Environmental Scanning. While conditions continue to morph and change, including those within the job market, today’s leaders need to stay on top of what is happening nationally, locally and within their industry. Routine scanning will help keep them up to date and better inform their strategy.

2. Persistent Networking. Now is the time for leaders to network within their organization, on their teams, and with others in their spaces. The more networking a leader does, the more connections they will make, and the more opportunities they will be able to take advantage of.

3. Frequent Communication. The best leaders are able to communicate effectively both up and down the chain. Now more than ever, team members want to be keep abreast of what’s happening within the organization and in the wider market.

4. Practicing Empathy and Flexibility. There has been a tremendous shift towards work-life integration and flexible scheduling in today’s workplaces. The balance of power has moved away from leadership and towards employees. Today’s most talented leaders are aware of this shift and will do what they can to make their organizational culture both empathetic and flexible.

5. Innovative Brainstorming. The ability to pivot and respond quickly has set the strongest leaders apart in modern organizations. As the rapid rate of acceleration persists in markets worldwide, the most innovative leaders will be at a significant advantage.
